Growing out your natural hair to a ‘bun-able’ length can take a while, but that doesn’t mean you can’t fake it until you get there. Pony tails, faux buns and even faux puffs are available and you can get a style to suit your taste, or a particular occasion. An alternative to buying is making one yourself and with a little creativity, you can wear the hairstyles you daydream about while growing out your hair.
For this updo, I used:
- hree hair bands (two small, one big one for the hairpiece)
- Afro Twist Braid synthetic hair, colour 1B
- Bobby pins
- Eco-Styler Gel
- soft bristle brush
- a scarf
While it’s nice to have super-sleek edges with baby hairs, not everyone has them, or even a thick full hairline. You just have to work with what you have. A little Eco Styler gel (or edge control is your edges are a bit stubborn) works wonders to keep your edges looking neat. Wrapping your hair with a scarf for about 20 minutes will also help to keep them in place.
This hairstyle can also be a protective style and will last up to five days (yes, I’ve tried it myself) if you wrap your hair at night. If you can’t sleep with the hairpiece on, you can always take it off and just put it back on in the morning. The only maintainance you would have to do is keep your edges moisturized and that’s it!
